p.a.w.s.
The Highland staff takes great care to not only develop our student's intellect, but also their personal skills and habits by integrating universal character and leadership values throughout the curriculum. At Highland we understand that students learn best in an environment where they feel safe, cared for, and accepted. It is for those reasons that we utilize our P.A.W.S. expectations to cultivate a positive and affirming building culture that is second to none.
PERSONAL BEST
The students and staff of Highland talk a lot about the idea of Personal Best. At Highland Personal Best simply means that we work to give our best effort in our work, in our play, and in our relationships with one another. We understand that nobody is perfect and that we must accept this of ourselves and our classmates. We strive to do our very best in all of our learning and social activities.

ACT RESPONSIBLY
Act Responsibly doesn't just mean coming to school with your materials and homework completed. Responsibility is a value that we strive for both academically and socially. As a member of the Highland Elementary Community we understand that we are strongest when we feel a sense of responsibility to ourselves and to one another. We take responsibility for our learning and for being good citizens of our school and community.

WORK & PLAY SAFELY
Highland Hounds love learning and having fun! We understand that we must be safe and responsible during our learning and play activities. We are grateful to our teachers, secretaries, custodians, lunch ladies, playground staff, and 5th Grade safeties who help us be safe at school.

SHOW RESPECT
Showing Respect goes well beyond being respectful of others and who they are as a learner and an individual. At Highland we work to give our students many opportunities to see the big picture and to be grateful for all they can learn from one another, their family members, their teachers, and members of their community. We understand that as students we are representatives of our school, our family, and our community and that it is important to give respect in order to get it.
